Self-presentation:

Mariaelena is a veterinarian currently associated with the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, at the University of Naples Federico II. Her research focus is Comparative Evaluation of Lameness Analysis Methods in Sport Horses.

Project:
Doppler Parameters Of The Lateral Palmar Digital Artery In Lame Sport Horses

Despite the routine use of ultrasound examination of the horse's limb, the use of eco-Doppler for visualization of the digital palmar arteries is still in the experimental phase. Increases in blood flow velocities evaluated by eco-Doppler examination of the lateral palmar digital artery (LPDA) were documented when the limb is maintained in a non-weight-bearing position. My PhD project seeks to enhance evaluation of the ultrasonographic alterations of the blood flow of the LPDA of the front limb of horses affected by unilateral lameness. Peak Systolic Rate (PSV), End-diastolic Rate (EDV) and Resistivity Index (RI) of LPDA were evaluated using Doppler ultrasound.
