Alma Sardo is a zootechnician, currently a PhD student in the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Naples, Federico Il and she is associated with the "Biologic" research laboratory located in Villa Literno. The focus of her project is the reuse of animal blood with consequent prototyping of bio-fertilizers.
The slaughter industry generates a big range of by-products that involves high disposal, so the Reg. (EC) 1069/2009 allows, as far as possible, the re-use of the wastes. The focus of the project is based on the use of 5 different animals’ blood meal in combination with a biodegradable coating to produce organic fertilizers with controlled and extended release. This is an approach that fits into a circular economy concept which allows the use of by-products to create innovative products made from valorization of these wastes.
