Alfio is veterinarian currently pursuing a PhD at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Naples Federico II. He specializes in infectious diseases and veterinary prophylaxis. His research project focuses on livestock productivity and reducing the environmental impact of animal systems. Through innovative strategies, he aims to improve animal health and promote sustainable practices, thereby contributing to public health and environmental protection.
Climatic and bioclimatic data have been collected to monitor forage quality and study the effect of environmental conditions on livestock. An advanced monitoring system has been developed to reduce the environmental impact of livestock operations and improve resource management. Sensors have been used to identify animals resilient to adverse climatic conditions and resistant to mastitis. Additionally, the possibility of integrating local agro-industrial by-products into animal feed has been analyzed, promoting sustainability and circularity in livestock systems.
