Sinem Arslan

Self-presentation:

Hello, I am Sinem Arslan, and I come from Turkey. In 2022, I graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ankara University. After my graduation, driven by my deep passion for microbiology and antimicrobial resistance, I attended the Bacteriology laboratory of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production of Naples, thanks to the Erasmus+ programme. Currently, I’m a PhD student in Veterinary Sciences at the Universıty of Naples Federico II.

Project:
European wild boars as an indicator of multidrug resistant bacteria in wild environment, and overall, of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus spp and ESβL-producing Escherichia coli.

My PhD project focuses on European wild boars (Sus scrofa) as indicators of multidrug-resistant bacteria in the wild environment, specifically examining methicillinresistant Staphylococcus spp. and ESβL-producing Escherichia coli. The objective of this study is to evaluate the antimicrobial resistance profiles of Staphylococcus spp. and E. coli strains isolated from wild boars in the hunting districts of the Campania Region (Italy), in order to provide new insights into the spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in wild environments and raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance, a global public health concern.

Supervisior:

Luisa De Martino, PhD Associate Professor of Veterinary Microbiology and Immunology, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production, University of Naples “Federico II”.
