Mariarosaria is a PhD student in Animal Production Sciences and Technologies and is currently pursuing a PhD in Veterinary Sciences at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production of the University Federico II of Naples. Her research focuses on the use of innovative strategies to improve the environmental sustainability of the poultry supply chain, with an approach based on the principles of the circular economy
The ecological footprint of poultry farming is a growing debate. Although poultry production is relatively environmentally friendly, poultry systems still present some characteristics that require special attention in terms of environmental impact. Therefore, it is crucial to find innovative strategies that can improve the environmental sustainability of the entire poultry supply chain. My PhD project aims to quantify the economic and environmental benefits of using insects in poultry feed, analyzing their impact on bird performance and production sustainability.
