Farwa Humak is a PhD student in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production at the University of Naples Federico II. She is a veterinarian and holds a Master of Science degree in Microbiology at University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. Her research is focused on the epidemiology and parasitic infections of main helminths of hunting dogs, with particular regard to zoonotic parasites.
Hunting dogs poses helminth infection due to their involvement in outdoor activities linked to human in rural and sylvatic environments in close contact with wildlife. They could be at higher risk for acquiring and thus disseminating zoonotic helminths, posing a significant threat to both human health and the ecosystem. The aim of PhD research is to investigate the prevalence and distribution of major zoonotic helminth parasites, evaluate the efficacy of current deworming practices, and identify potential public health risks associated with Taeniae spp. infections. This research will contribute to developing evidence-based strategies for managing helminth zoonoses in hunting dogs, promoting both animal and human health in a one health perspective.
