Dr. Beatrice Mercaldo is a veterinarian currently associated with the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production at the University of Naples 'Federico II.' Her research focuses on the use of precision medicine to support the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in companion animals.
Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease is the most diagnosed heart disease in dogs. The disease is characterized by the progressive myxomatous degeneration of the atrioventricular valves and represents the most common cause of congestive heart failure. In veterinary medicine, few studies have been conducted on functional exercise capacity tests in dogs with heart disease and the ability to assess their responses through technological monitoring devices. The aim of my PhD project is to evaluate the effectiveness of functional exercise tests and the use of monitoring devices in dogs with heart disease, in order to identify early signs of disease progression and to assess the response to therapy.
